What if I forget my P.E. clothes or I wear the wrong thing?

  • Students in grades K-2 do not have a P.E. uniform, but they are required to wear athletic shoes with their uniform on days they are coming to P.E. Also, girls should make sure they wear shorts under dresses or skirts.
  • Students in grades 3-4 are asked to dress out for Physical Education but will not receive a penalty if they are not dressed. A note may go home with parents reminding them to have their child dress out.
  • Students who are in MS/US are required to wear a P.E. uniform and receive points off for not dressing out.

1st time: Oops! I forgot. This is your freebie! Use it wisely – you only get one per year.
2nd time: 1 point off for every article of clothing they are missing from their uniform.
3rd time: Same as #2 plus a note home to parents or guardians.

PARTICIPATION

Because PE is the best class in school, I don't anticipate any "no participation" days!  Students who need to be restricted from any form of physical activity must have a medical form completed by a physician and turned in to me. Students MAY be excused from participating in class for only one day by presenting a note signed by their parent or guardian. If a student is too ill for PE, then they are too ill to be in school and will be sent to the office.

GRADING SYSTEM

Students in the Lower School are graded strongly on participation, effort and attitude. LS students will receive a letter grade that reflects how they have participated and acted for example: E (Always), S (Usually), N (sometimes), and U (rarely). All students start with an “S” and it will change depending on the student. They do not receive a number grade until they reach the MS/US. When in MS/US they will start with a 100 and will receive a point off for being late to class and one point for every part of the uniform they are missing. It is always possibly to receive a 100 in Physical Education, but you need to be responsible and put forth the effort!

FITNESS TESTING

The fitness-testing program that will be in use is the Presidential Physical Activity and Fitness Awards Program set forth by the Presidents Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS). Fitness testing will be conducted in the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, the testing is conducted to allow the students to know where their current level of fitness stands. Thereafter, the student will be graded on their performance according to the Presidential Physical Fitness Normative Data. At the end of the year they will receive their award in the level that they achieved.

Dear Parents,

Physical Education is such an integral part of the overall school experience and is needed to keep us healthy. Much of my class is based on lifetime fitness and varieties of activities that enhance fitness, give opportunities for teamwork and socializing, and encourage self-esteem. I hope to have a wonderful year with your child here at EMS. Feel free to contact me at mpye@eastminsterschool.org.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pye
