Eastminster wins league basketball crown

CONYERS — In just its third year on the court, the Eastminster School Owls basketball team completed the season with a 7-2 record and won the championship of its league, which includes Woodlee’s Christian Academy, Covington Christian Academy and Peachtree Academy.

The Owls — who include players from fifth to ninth grade — also played a pair of game outside the league against Griffin Christian Academy.

Members of the Eastminster basketball team — coached by headmaster Darren Pascavage — include Robert Baker (captain), Quentavious Byrd (captain), Murad Dillard, Trent Fowler, Moriah Mason, Boyce Poleon, Mishawn Baker, Rashad Holmes, William Maddox and Keshun Byrd

“We’re a small school and we hoped that as we grew, we’d get better in all sports,” Pascavage said. “I’m grateful that our students learned what they can accomplish when they do all you ask them to do. It’s good to have a season worth of the effort our students put into it.”

Founded seven years ago, Eastminster School this year added a ninth-grade class and will add a 10th-grade class in 2011-12. The school will have its first graduating class in 2014.

Besides basketball, Eastminster also offers soccer, equestrian, cheerleading, golf, swimming and tennis. For more information Eastminster School, visit www.eastminsterschool.org.
